6 Things to Do With Your Dog This Fall

Autumn is finally here! Many of us are really enjoying the crisp, cool air, and are looking forward to seeing some beautiful foliage. This is a great time of year to spend some time with your canine buddy! Here, a Carmel, IN vet lists some things to do with your dog this fall.

Take Long Walks

Once winter sets in, you may want to keep Fido’s daily walks short and sweet. However, fall weather is absolutely perfect for dog walking! Bring your furry friend to a pretty local park, or explore a new trail with him.

Photo Session

Autumn is a great time to get some super-cute pictures of your pup. Schedule Fido’s photo shoot for dusk or dawn to get the best light. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different settings or effects.

Clothes Fitting

Many dogs are more comfortable with a sweater or jacket in cold weather. You may also want to pick up a cute Halloween costume for your pet. Fido has worn some very adorable outfits in the past. He’s been a spider, a pirate, a hot dog, and a dinosaur, just to name a few. Just be sure to put safety first. Don’t force your canine pal to wear a costume if he seems uncomfortable in clothing. Avoid anything that is tight, itchy, or constricting. You also want to stay away from outfits with parts your pooch may try to eat, like buttons or dangling pieces.

Beauty Sessions

Fall is a peak shedding time, so you may find more fur on your clothes and furniture than usual. Take Fido outside for a quick brushing every day. That way, the extra fur will blow away instead of getting stuck to your things.

Playtime

Once the temperatures drop, you probably won’t be spending much time outdoors playing with your pup. Take advantage of autumn’s beautiful weather and have some fun with your furry buddy. Take Fido out to the yard for games of Fetch or Tag.

Enjoy a Treat

To make a fall treat you and Fido can both enjoy, mix pureed pumpkin with natural peanut butter, whole-wheat flour, and 2 eggs. Use a little salt and cinnamon for seasoning. Separate into cookies, and bake at 350 for 40 minutes.
