5 Things Your Dog is Thankful For

Turkey Day is just a few weeks away! While we are certainly looking forward to that delicious holiday food, it’s also important to remember the true meaning of Thanksgiving: gratitude. Pets are definitely something for us to be thankful for. But what about Fido? If your canine pal could make a list of the things he is most appreciative of, what do you think would be on it? A Carmel, IN vet makes a few educated guesses below.

Food

It’s pretty safe to say that food is one of Fido’s favorite things. Man’s Best Friend certainly does love a good meal! Making sure your dog gets proper nutrition is very important, so ask your vet for specific recommendations.

Bed

Your pup will sleep much more comfortably on a good bed than he would on the floor. Fido’s doggy bed would also make his list.

Belly Rubs

Many of our canine friends absolutely love getting petted and scratched. Belly rubs are definitely among Fido’s favorite things, as are head rubs and back scritches.

Treats

Nothing gets that tail wagging like the thought of a yummy treat. Just avoid overindulging your furry pal with fatty snacks: you don’t want Fido becoming obese.

Car Rides

Does your pup get excited when he hears the jangle of car keys? Many of our canine buddies absolutely love going for car rides. Just be sure to put Fido’s safety first: keep him crated on car rides, and never leave him in a vehicle unattended.

Playtime

Dogs are very playful and active by nature. Whether Fido’s favorite toy is a tennis ball, a rope pull, or another cute plaything, we’re pretty sure your pooch would give thanks for his toybox if he could.

Veterinary Care

While visiting us probably isn’t your pet’s favorite thing to do, proper veterinary care will help your furry buddy look and feel his best. And, even if Fido doesn’t really understand what parasite control products and vaccines are for, he would definitely be grateful for being healthy and flea-free.

You

At the end of the day, dogs really only want someone to pet them, play with them, feed them, and, perhaps most of all, love them. You’re the apple of Fido’s eye, and the center of his world!
