8 Ways to Keep Your Cat Happy and Healthy

Did you know that September is Happy, Healthy Cat Month? This is a great chance to take a look at Fluffy’s care regimen, and make sure your feline friend is in good health, and that her little motor is running smoothly. Below, a Carmel, IN vet discusses keeping kitties happy and healthy.

Veterinary Care

Fluffy should see the vet at least once a year, for exams, vaccines, and parasite control. We also recommend that kitties be microchipped and spayed or neutered. At home, watch for any potential signs of illness, and call your vet right away if you notice anything unusual about your cat’s appearance, behavior, appetite, or vocalizations. Ask your vet for specific recommendations.

Good Food

A good, nourishing diet will help keep your furball looking and feeling good. Get Fluffy the best brand of pet food you can afford, but don’t go overboard with fatty treats. It’s also important to make sure your kitty always has fresh, clean water. Ask your vet for nutritional advice.

Clean Facilities

Kitties hate dirty bathrooms! Keep Fluffy’s personal powder room clean by scooping it daily and thoroughly changing the litter every week.

Kitty Comforts

To truly make your feline overlord happy, you’ll need to provide her with a few things of her own. Make sure Fluffy has plenty of cozy beds. We also recommend getting your furball a good scratching post and some kitty furniture, such as a cat tower.

Playtime

Believe it or not, cats can get bored. Offer Fluffy lots of fun toys, and take time to play with her daily. Regular play sessions are great for kitties, both mentally and physically! Your furry buddy will also enjoy a good window view.

Indoor Life

Cats are both safer and healthier staying indoors, where they aren’t exposed to the dangers posed by cars, chemicals, predators, and other hazards. Keep your feline friend indoors!

Kittyproofing

Be sure to keep toxic plants; chemicals; medicine; plastic bags and wrappers; small objects; and other potentially dangerous items well out of reach of those cute little paws.

Purrs and Snuggles

Last but not least, pay attention to Fluffy, and make sure she feels loved, safe, and secure. The more you interact with your furball, the more interactive she’ll become!
