Fido’s Top 5 New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Year! Are you making resolutions this year? Have you ever wondered what Fido’s goals would be, if he could make resolutions? We can certainly make a few educated guesses! In this article, a Carmel, IN vet lists some things we suspect would make Man’s Best Friend list of personal priorities for 2016.

Get More Belly Rubs

It doesn’t take much to please our canine pals. One of Fido’s most adorable habits is his way of sprawling out when he wants belly rubs. Your pooch may thump his leg when you hit that one spot. Help your pooch hit this goal: offer lots of tummy rubs, and ear scritches too.

Get More Bacon

Fido tends to perk up when he sees or smells bacon. While it isn’t the end of the world if the occasional piece of bacon accidentally falls into your canine buddy’s mouth, don’t overindulge your pet with this fattening treat. Offer him healthier snacks instead.

Evade Bathtime

Does your pooch bolt for his favorite hiding spot when he hears the word ‘bath’? Regardless of what your pet thinks of it, proper grooming is very important. To make it more fun for your furry buddy, give him lots of praise during bathtime, and offer him a treat, or even a new toy, afterwards.

Longer Walks

We know, you can’t stand around all afternoon while Fido inspects every blade of grass in the vicinity. That said, try to indulge your furry buddy from time to time with long walks or trips to a doggy park. It will be good for both of you!

Banish the Vacuum

If Fido didn’t see the vacuum all year, he probably wouldn’t mind: Man’s Best Friend is generally not big fans of these noisy appliances! Some of our canine pals bark at vacuums, others growl, and others run and hide. Don’t give in on this one, though: vacuuming will help remove dead fur and dander from your home, and is also very helpful in fighting fleas.

Love

Man’s Best Friend is very loyal and loving. At the end of the day, he wants nothing more than to spend time with his human family. Remember to carve time out for Fido each day.
